AI Recipes for Hungry Designers is the first in a series that explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and graphic design. I set out to experiment with how AI, through tools like Midjourney for visuals and ChatGPT for text, can enhance and complement traditional design processes. This project blends human creativity with cutting-edge technology, aiming to showcase the exciting potential of AI as a collaborative tool in the design world.
The project challenges conventional approaches by integrating AI-generated visuals and text with customized typography to create a unique, cohesive design. The goal was to explore how AI can expand creative possibilities, while still maintaining the human touch that drives meaningful design. The Challenge
The main challenge I faced was seamlessly integrating AI-generated visuals into a cohesive design while maintaining a strong human touch. I wanted the typography to not only complement the AI visuals but elevate them. To achieve this, I set out to design a booklet where the type had a vintage, almost handcrafted feel, in harmony with the refined elegance of the china plates featured in the photos. Striking the balance between a timeless aesthetic and an innovative approach was key.
The Strategy
My strategy began with using Midjourney to generate visually captivating photography that would form the backdrop for the booklet. Each image was carefully selected to highlight the delicate textures of the china plates, creating an elegant, cohesive visual experience. The typography was then customized to bring a vintage, handcrafted feel to the project, perfectly aligned with the timeless elegance of the imagery.
For the body copy, I used ChatGPT to generate the initial content, which I then carefully edited to ensure the tone and narrative aligned with the design vision. This combination of AI-driven visuals, text, and human refinement allowed me to create a seamless balance between automation and artistic input. The booklet was printed by Mitchell Press, ensuring the physical product reflected the high quality of the design.
